Kill the Christians
9pm, BBC2

A gripping but depressing This World film by Jane Corbin, examining one of the human consequences of resurgent jihadism in the Middle East. The region’s Christian populations, along with their cultural artefacts, have been deliberately and ruthlessly targeted by Islamic State and various fellow-travellers. Corbin meets Christians determined to survive in the place where their faith was founded, among them some who have fled the rampage. A chilling glimpse into 21st-century religious warfare. Andrew Mueller

Newzoids
9pm, ITV

The Thunderbirds reboot may have opted for CGI but this new satirical sketch show goes full retro, featuring crude Action Man versions of Prince Charles, Beyoncé, Andy Murray and other notable cultural figures. The cheerful crappiness of the puppets – particularly noticeable since Putin always has his top off – feels like a throwback to the grotesquery of Spitting Image, but Newzoids will ultimately depend on the quality of the writing. A crack voice squad, including Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson, certainly helps. Graeme Virtue

The Island with Bear Grylls
9pm, Channel 4

No campmates have been eaten yet, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t getting desperate on the Men’s Island. Despite having a couple of builders – Paul and Andy – in their midst, they still haven’t knocked up a proper shelter so no one has slept, and after torrential storms the brickies get tetchy. Farmer Charlie, meanwhile, is stung by a scorpion, and a fishing trip turns dangerous when two adventurers are swept out to sea. This year there’s a Women’s Island, too, and you can see how they’re faring on Thursday at 9pm. Hannah Verdier

Holocaust Survivor: A Promise to My Father
9pm, PBS America

Israel Arbeiter was just a teenager when he was separated from his parents in the Polish town of Płock. He never saw them again – they were sent to the Treblinka death camp. In his last words to his son, Arbeiter’s father had him promise he would carry on the family’s Jewish traditions. The pledge sustained him through the war. In 2012, Arbeiter returned to Poland seeking religious artefacts buried by the family when the Germans invaded. Heartstoppingly moving. David Stubbs

The Delivery Man
9.30pm, ITV

Possibly UK television’s first sitcom set in an obstetrics and gynaecology ward, this comes from Green Wing creator Victoria Pile. Darren Boyd stars as Matthew, the sole male midwife at a busy maternity ward. Despite his presence ruffling a few traditionalist feathers, Matthew’s chipper demeanour remains unchiselled. A situation certainly fit to deliver, though when an “overweight woman isn’t pregnant after all” clunker lands within minutes, enthusiasm may well be curbed. On the plus side, Alex Macqueen impresses as icy obstetrician Luke. Mark Jones

Lip Sync Battle
9.30pm, Spike

It’s launch night for new Freeview channel Spike, and a gameshow where US celebs mime along to pop hits sounds like an unpromising start. But that would be to underestimate the charismatic power of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson vamping his way through Shake It Off. Hosted with mock-severity by LL Cool J, Lip Sync Battle’s charming, low-stakes vibe ends up becoming surprisingly infectious. Spike earns further props for being the first UK channel to screen the entire run of Breaking Bad, starting tonight at 11pm. GV

Raining in my Heart
10.40pm, ITV

Highly affecting one-off documentary following children with complex cancers as they undergo experimental immunotherapy treatment. Eleven-year-old Sophie, 10-year-old Fabian and Chloe, who is just three, show incredible strength during the clinical trials, which have their own potentially life-threatening side effects. Filmed over two years by Bafta-winner Brian Woods, it offers an exceptionally moving insight into their lives, as well as those of the parents and siblings striving to give them a sense of normality. Hannah J Davies
