The World’s Most Expensive Food
8pm, Channel 4
It sounds mouthwatering, but you’re more likely to be grinding your teeth after watching the first instalment of this two-part documentary on the high-end suppliers who provide foods to London’s expanding superclass of pampered billionaires. From £24,000 tins of caviar to exorbitantly priced champagne, the displays of consumption leave a bad taste in the mouth, especially if the challenges of creating Michelin-quality meals in the cramped confines of a private jet leave you unmoved. Fighting For King And Empire: Britain’s Caribbean Heroes
9pm, BBC4
Amid the brouhaha attending the anniversary of the end of the second world war in Europe, many extraordinary stories were inevitably going to be forgotten. This documentary recovers one of them: that of the men and women from Britain’s Caribbean colonies who volunteered for the fight against Hitler despite, to put it charitably, the ambivalence of certain of their comrades towards them. The strength of this is the testimony of surviving veterans whose recollections are heartening and humbling. Andrew Mueller
The Affair
9pm, Sky Atlantic
Ruth Wilson and Dominic West star as Alison and Noah in this slow-burn US drama – beginning here with a double bill – about a disastrous tryst between two married people in a seaside town one summer. As we watch their story unfold, it becomes clear that Noah and Alison’s versions of events differ. It’s also obvious that at some stage the cops became involved, as they both appear to be in separate interview rooms telling the story. The leads are magnetic and the direction from Brit Mark Mylod is sublime. Julia Raeside
Rory Bremner’s Election Report
10pm, BBC2
See that dust swirling through the air, not yet settled? That’ll be the result of the most hotly contested general election in many a year; and all grist, of course, to Rory Bremner’s grinder. In this one-off special, recorded just after the results came in, the voice-wrangler takes a satirical look back at it all (his Farage ought to be a hoot) – and towards the future. Who were the real winners? How many promises will they actually keep? And, utimately, just what have we let ourselves in for? Ali Catterall
Nashville
10pm, E4
As the third run of the country music soap kicks off, it’s time for Rayna (Connie Britton) to stand by her man, but will she choose Luke or Deacon, both of whom proposed to her at the end of last season? Her fellow performers aren’t having a great time of it, either: Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) is distraught following her breakup with Avery, Scarlett’s (Clare Bowen) plan to escape Music City grinds to a halt in Mississippi and Layla (Aubrey Peeples) struggles to come to terms with Will’s sexuality. Missed Warnings: The Bradford City Fire
11.20pm, BBC2
Thirty years on from the disaster at Bradford City, the wound is still raw, not least because of recent allegations about fires at other businesses associated with the club’s then chairman Stafford Heginbotham. BBC reporter Robert Hall, who reported from Valley Parade on the day 56 football fans died, goes back to the city to meet people whose lives were changed for ever and to re-examine the case. His main line of inquiry is whether a series of safety warnings were ignored, and if so why. Jack Seale
