Wedding weather calculator predicts whether it will rain on your special day

You can find out the chance it will rain on your wedding day (Stock) ( )

With all the details that go into planning a wedding, one factor - whether it will rain or not - largely comes down to luck.

Fortunately, brides and grooms-to-be may not have to rely solely on chance, as a “wedding weather calculator” - created by retailer Monsoon - tries to take the guesswork out of planning your special day.

To attempt to predict the chance of rain on any given day, Monsoon analysed 86 years of official Met Office rainfall data.

The result is a calculator that requires the date of your wedding and the region to predict the percentage of rain.

If your big day does happen to fall on a wet day, the calculator will advise on the soonest drier date.

For example, if you were planning a Christmas Day wedding in Scotland or Northern Ireland in the South East region, which has a 36.78 per cent chance of rainfall, it would be advisable to wait until December 27 - historically the driest day in December.

Brides and grooms planning for a spring wedding have the best odds of clear skies, according to the calculator, which says the driest day in the South East is April 15.

“The month of April is in fact the driest month of the year, with an average daily rainfall of just 2.29mm,” Monsoon said.

For soon-to-be newlyweds in England and Wales, an early summer wedding may be the better option, as June 29 was found to be the driest day.

Of course, past weather patterns don't predict future ones - but it's an extra data point to take into account when trying to plan the perfect day.

If you want to ensure your wedding guests don’t have to bring umbrellas, you can try the calculator here.
