Bridal fashion 2019: wedding dresses with pockets and statement hair accessories

With peak wedding season fast approaching, Lyst has released its wedding report for 2019.

Having analysed the shopping behaviour of over 5 million monthly online users, the fashion search platform has created a handy guide to the top 2019 wedding trends.

From bridal gowns with pockets to hot pink wedding dresses, this is what brides-to-be are searching for right now...

Dresses with pockets

Earlier this year an image of a bride from Cambridge and her bridesmaids wearing floor length dresses with pockets went viral. The snap reminded women around the world about the sheer joy of functionality: a dress with pockets. Actresses Olivia Colman, Sarah Paulson and Gemma Chan then went on to model frocks with pockets at the Oscars 2019.

Subsequently, searches for "dresses with pockets" on Lyst have surged by 83 per cent over the last six months. Expect to see brides championing the style this year.

Personalised trainers

Modern brides have been gradually making the switch from stilettos to sneakers for a few years now, and Lyst reports searches for personalised trainers have increased 61 per cent year-on-year.

The top searches are "sparkly" and "customised" - and with everything from bespoke Converse to crystal-covered Jimmy Choos now readily available, brides have endless options to choose from.

White suits

Wedding dress alternatives have seen a boom in popularity with brides looking for edgier ways to express themselves on their big day.

According to Lyst, searches are up 43 per cent for "white suits" and, with designers like Stella McCartney creating perfectly tailored bridal suits, we're sure the two-set will continue to be the contemporary bride's favourite this year.

This year vintage wedding dresses are having a resurgence.

With an increasing focus on sustainability, brides are looking to reduce their environmental impact by opting for a vintage dress, with Lyst seeing a 93 per cent surge in pre-owned wedding dresses.

Hot pink dresses

Pink gowns were all over the red carpet during awards season, but the sudden interest in hot pink can mainly be attributed to the frothy tulle creation by Molly Goddard in Killing Eve. Prepare to see bold brides braving the hue this summer as searches increased by 45 per cent year-on-year.

Statement headpieces

With hair accessories being one of the hottest trends at Paris Fashion Week AW19, it's no surprise that headbands have overtaken traditional hats and fascinators in the style stakes this wedding season. Searches are already up 94 per cent since January.

Many brides-to-be also seem to be taking their cues from Rachel Weisz's diamond design at the Oscars, with interest in "diamond headbands" up by 78 per cent.

Pearl accessories

Searches for pearl earrings have risen a whopping 109 per cent since the beginning of January, making it the hottest jewellery trend of the summer and perfect bridal accessory.
