Wedding receptions banned under Tier 3 lockdown rules

Wedding receptions are to be banned in the new Tier 3 lockdown rules, which were announced by Boris Johnson yesterday.

Liverpool City Region has been placed under the harsh new measures, as cases spiralled across the region.

Yesterday the Prime Minister laid out a new three tier lockdown system, with areas placed in Medium (Tier 1), High (Tier 2) or Very High (Tier 3) areas.

The new rules come into force on Wednesday, with pubs, bars, casinos, gyms, adult gaming centres and betting shops all forced to close in Liverpool.

Restaurants and pubs selling extensive food will remain open for now and schools and universities are also open as normal.

The restrictions also mean a big change for those hoping to get married, as wedding receptions have been banned.

The news will bring fresh misery to couples whose wedding plans have already been derailed by the pandemic.

And they could cause severe financial hardship to the wedding planners, venues, florists and photographers who rely on wedding to make a living.

But couples will still be able to get married and have 15 people at their ceremony, but they will not be able to host a celebration afterwards.

The ban will apply to the six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region from Wednesday - as well as any other region made Tier 3 in future under the new Local Covid Alert Level system.
