Eleven wedding hall operators across the country say they will be more flexible regarding scheduling changes and cancellation fees, in response to the spread of the new coronavirus.
This policy will be applied to couples who plan to choose a wedding venue in April or May. If the couple reschedules their wedding, they will only need to pay for charges such as the cost of printing invitations. There will be no charge for rescheduling at the same venue.
In principle, a couple must pay a cancellation fee if they postpone their wedding, a concern for those who might have to reschedule due to the virus.
Wedding service provider Rexit called on hall operators to provide such special exceptions.
The 11 operators run 55 ceremonial halls, including Hotel Gajoen Tokyo and Heianjingu Shrine Hall in Kyoto.
"We want to provide an environment in which our customers can find a hall without having to worry about a cancellation fee," one official said.
The 11 operators will also try to minimize in-person contact by conducting information-gathering sessions and other preparations online.
