Wedding Dress Ball in Newcastle offers women a chance to wear their bridal gowns again

It's the only spoiler of the big day, when brides, having been seen in all their glory, then hang up their wedding dress thinking they won't have a chance to wear it again.

Having just one day to show it off is even more of a shame considering just how much time, effort and expense went into finding that perfect gown in the first place.

Well, now an invitation has gone out to a special party which will remedy all that by bringing  another opportunity for former brides to don the meringue, dust off the veil and celebrate with fizz and cake.

A Wedding Dress Ball is being held at Blackfriars in Newcastle where they can enjoy a second big day - accompanied by their partners and their bridesmaids too, which no doubt means that there will be lots of people rushing to try on, and squeeze into, their suits and frocks.

The restaurant, whose Banquet Hall is a popular wedding venue, hit upon the idea of the ball as a way of celebrating its 15-year anniversary of hosting marriages; receptions and parties.

Its June 28 celebration, which will include wedding music, a three-course wedding breakfast and lots of balloons and confetti, is open to anyone keen to recreate their big day while organisers have also contacted all couples who married at Blackfriars.

Families and close friends are also welcome to join the celebrations and anyone who cannot now fit into their wedding outfits but still want to recapture those happy memories can always wear a cocktail or evening dress instead.

The ball will take place in the ornate medieval Banquet Hall, which will be decked out with flowers and candles, and guests will enjoy a bubbly reception with canapes from 7pm, followed by a traditional three-course wedding breakfast.

A singer will help capture the atmosphere of a wedding reception and, completing the perfect picture, there will be a wedding cake and coffee too.

Andy Hook, owner of Blackfriars Restaurant said "We thought we’d mark our 15th year of holding wedding ceremonies and receptions with a wedding dress ball to give our customers, and all those who enjoyed their big day, the opportunity to get dressed up and enjoy a fabulous romantic meal in our Banquet Hall."

Tickets cost £49. To book, see here .
