Web Summit chief Paddy Cosgrave interviewed by gardai in Leo Varadkar GP contract leak probe

Web Summit chief Paddy Cosgrave is the latest figure to be interviewed by gardai as part of their criminal investigation into Leo Varadkar’s leaking.

Sources told the Mirror that Mr Cosgrave attended an interview with detective officers on Tuesday morning this week.

As with many others who have been questioned as part of the ongoing probe, there is no question of any wrongdoing on his part.

The tech entrepreneur is connected to the controversy through his friendship with Chay Bowes, the whistleblower in the leaking story.

Mr Bowes had explosive WhatsApp messages detailing how then-Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, had leaked a confidential draft GP contract to a doctor pal, Dr Maitiú Ó Tuaithail.

This was back in April 2019 when sensitive negotiations between the IMO (Irish Medical Organisation) were drawing to a close.

Mr Ó Tuaithail was one of the leaders of the now-defunct rival to the IMO, the NAGP (National Association of General Practitioners).

It is understood that Mr Bowes came to Mr Cosgrave with this explosive information, asking him for advice.

Mr Cosgrave directed him to Village magazine, who published the exclusive story revealing details of the leak.

The Irish Mirror subsequently published a story in February revealing that a Garda criminal investigation had been launched and that Minister Simon Harris had already been interviewed as part of the probe.
