
Ahead of the start of the baseball season, employees at a factory of major bat manufacturer Lonwood Co. in Nanto, Toyama Prefecture, examine the products before they are shipped during the busiest time of the year. As the city's humidity is suitable for processing wood for bats throughout the year, manufacturing has flourished here since before World War II. The factory produces about 300 bats per day out of maple wood from North America, including made-to-order bats for professional baseball players.
