LOS ANGELES -- Three Japanese animated feature films were nominated in the independent film category of the Annie Awards, the International Animated Film Association said Monday.
The awards are often regarded as the Academy Awards of the animation industry.
The three works selected among the five Best Indie Feature category nominees are "Okko's Inn" (Wakaokami wa Shogakusei) directed by Kitaro Kosaka, "Promare" directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and "Weathering With You" (Tenki no Ko) directed by Makoto Shinkai.
The winners will be announced at the award ceremony on Jan. 25 in Los Angeles.
