An amber weather warning has been issued for some parts of the UK, as Storm Francis sweeps into Liverpool.

The amber warning doesn't cover Liverpool, but it is in place for nearby North Wales and a yellow weather warning remains in place for Merseyside for wind and rain.

The Amber warning from the Met Office said: " Very strong winds are likely to bring disruption to parts of England and Wales Tuesday during afternoon and evening.

"Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected.

"Some roads and bridges likely to close

"There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

The Met Office forecast for Tuesday said: "Staying very blustery with unseasonably strong south-westerly winds. Heavy rain will turn more showery through the afternoon, but some heavy patches will remain.

"Tonight will be mainly cloudy with a few showers in the evening tapering to a few mist or drizzle patches overnight. Staying rather windy tomorrow."

Storm Francis is set to blow over by tomorrow morning, with Wednesday expected to be a mostly fine and dry day.
