Weather warning issued for thunderstorms and rain across Stirling and Clackmannanshire

A yellow weather warning has been issued for thunderstorms across Stirling and Clackmannanshire.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning which is in place from 7pm tonight (Friday) until 10am on Saturday.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms is likely to cause difficult travelling conditions and localised flooding.

Met Office officials are advising that there is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus; delays to train services are possible; some short term loss of power and other services is likely;  some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes; and some flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.

The warning is in place for Central Scotland - including Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Perth and Kinross - as well as Strathclyde, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, South West Scotland, Lothian Borders and Northern Ireland.

A flood alert from he Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has been issued to residents in Stirling.

A further weather warning for heavy rain has also been issued for early next week.

A yellow warning is in place from 6pm on Sunday until 6am on Tuesday.

Businesses in Stirling city centre were left mopping up last month following the freak thunderstorm which caused serious flooding.

One inch of rain fell in the space of a hour, flooding roads and underpasses, shutting two city supermarkets leading to the closure of three schools.
