Weather warning issued for Greater Manchester tomorrow

Strong winds are predicted for Greater Manchester tomorrow with forecasters warning of road and rail delays.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning forecasting strong winds across the entire region.

The warning, which covers most of England, is in place from 4am to 6pm on Friday (August 21).

It states that strong wings could cause some delays to road and rail travel - as well as delays at the airport and on ferries.

Some bus and train services may be affected, with some journeys taking longer.

Delays are likely for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges and there may be some short term losses of power, forecasters said.

The Met Office also predict light rain showers to fall across the region for most of the day.

Storm Ellen has battered parts of the UK this week, with gusts of up to 66 miles per hour recorded at Pembrey Sands in Wales and Finner in Ireland.

The storm is set to dominate the weather across the UK for the rest of the week, forecasters have said.

In a statement on the Met Office website, chief meteorologist Steve Ramsdale said: “Following the recent hot and thundery weather we are seeing a significant change to very unsettled conditions for August with an unseasonal spell of strong winds associated with low-pressure centres for the second half of the week.

“Uncertainty remains high in the intensity of these systems at this point, but we are confident in the change to a spell of much windier weather."
