Weather warning issued for Galway, Mayo, Kerry and Cork as Met Eireann forecasts flooding

A Status Yellow weather warning for four counties will take effect this afternoon as the country is set to be soaked.

The yellow rainfall alert has been issued for Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry as the south and west is set to be hit with some very heavy rainfall.

And weather chiefs are warning that localised flooding will also hit the counties.

Rainfall of 25mm to 40mm is expected in higher in mountainous region.

The weather warnings take effect from 6pm this evening until 12pm on Wednesday afternoon.


In terms of the outlook for the entire country as forecaster said: "Mostly cloudy to begin on Tuesday with lingering drizzle and mist. However, brighter conditions in the southwest will extend to most areas by the early afternoon.

"Cloud will thicken from the west later as southerly winds freshen, with rain arriving in Connacht and west Munster towards evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

"Rain will spread countrywide on Tuesday night, with some heavy falls, bringing a risk of localised spot flooding. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees with strong southerly winds developing.

"Wednesday will be a wet and windy day with a continued risk of localised spot flooding. Strong and gusty southerly winds will veer westerly and ease later in the day. Top temperatures of 12 and 14 degrees.

"The rain will clear eastwards on Wednesday night and under clear skies temperatures will drop significantly in a much cooler airmass than recent days, down to between plus 2 and 5 degrees with a grass frost possibly developing."

The current out look for the rest of the week is that the weather will remain very unsettled.
