Weather warning issued as gales of up to 70mph to hit the North East

More gale force winds are heading to the North East after a blustery start to the week.

A yellow weather warning is currently in place across our region with strong winds expected all day on Tuesday.

The high winds are expected to die down by this evening but there will be more to come for some of us.

A new warning by the Met Office has been issued for parts of the country, including County Durham , throughout Thursday.

A spell of very strong winds is expected to spread from the south west across Wales and many parts of England through Thursday morning.

Gusts of 50-60 mph are possible for many areas, with gusts of 70 mph in places, according to the Met Office.

Winds will begin to ease across Wales through late morning, and across the rest of the warning area by evening.

The warning is in place between 3am and 6pm and is likely to cause disruption.

Forecasters say there is a small chance flying debris could cause injuries or danger to life.

There is also a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

Public transport journeys could be delayed or cancelled and some roads could be closed to high-sided vehicles.

Power cuts could also take place during the strong winds and walkers are urged to take care near the coast where there could be high waves.
