Weather warning in place as 'very strong winds' head for Ayrshire

Ayrshire is braced for high winds this weekend, following Met Office warnings.

Weather experts have issued yellow warnings for 'very strong winds' over Friday and Saturday this week.

A yellow warning means the predicted weather event is likely to happen.

The Met Office website post read: "Potential for a period of very strong winds to develop across northern Scotland on Friday afternoon then extend south during the evening."

Those in Ayrshire should expect: some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and the MET Office has advised there is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

There is also a small chance that some roads and bridges could close and a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage, according to the forecaster.
