A walk on the sands was off the menu at Crosby beach this afternoon as the region was hit by some blustery conditions.
The Iron Men statues were submerged beneath the waves as high tides lashed the promenade.
The Met Office forecast was for persistent rain from this afternoon to continue this evening, becoming heavy at times, and accompanied by strong winds and coastal gales.
There is currently a yellow weather warning in place for parts of Merseyside, which is in place until 8am tomorrow.

A further 20-30 mm rain is likely to occur quite widely with perhaps as much as 40-50 mm on high ground in northern parts of England and 60-90 mm over the higher ground in Wales.
Following heavy rain in these areas during previous days, flooding impacts and disruption to transport is possible. Strong to gale force southwesterly winds are likely with potential for leaf fall to exacerbate flooding in places.

- Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
- Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
- Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
Tomorrow the forecast is a mixture of some sunny spells and frequent showers.
The showers will be heavy and blustery at times and could give the odd rumble of thunder.
The longer-term forecast is for further showers on Tuesday, again heavy at times.
It should be more settled on Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure arrives, but will still feel chilly with possible overnight frost or fog.
