Weather warning extended as Storm Dennis the 'bomb cyclone' continues to batter Merseyside

A yellow weather warning has been put in place for tomorrow as Storm Dennis continues to batter the North West with strong winds.

Gusts of wind will reach more than 50mph tomorrow, with the Met Office warning of travel disruption.

In our region, Southport and Formby are covered by the warning for wind, which runs from 10am today until 11am tomorrow.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Storm Dennis will bring some very strong winds and transport disruption during Sunday and into Monday morning.

"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.

"Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.

A weather warning is now in place for tomorrow as well (met office)

"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

"And it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves."

Forecasters have now confirmed Storm Dennis is a "bomb cyclone", having undergone something called "bombogenesis".

Police have declared the flooding in south Wales caused by Storm Dennis a "major incident".

Some communities across south Wales have been cut off and emergency service workers are working to evacuate homes and rescue people who have been stranded.

Police have said they have been called to deal with multiple flood issues and landslides, as well as evacuating homes.

Storm Dennis has hit the country just days after Storm Ciara, which saw huge waves block off roads in New Brighton and the death of a dog walker in Black Woods, Woolton, who was hit by a falling tree branch.
