Weather warning extended as flooding and travel disruption expected in Notts

A weather warning for heavy rainfall in Nottinghamshire has been extended until midnight tonight.

The Met Office initially put a yellow warning in place between 12pm yesterday, Saturday, July 27, until 3pm today.

But they have now extended it until midnight tonight - and are warning of flooding, travel disruption and power cuts in some areas.

They also say that residents can expect some communities to be cut off by flooded roads and deep floodwater in some areas "causing a danger to life."

The area of disruption has also been extended, as while only northern parts of the county such as Mansfield, Hucknall and Newark were expected to be affected yesterday, the warning has now been increased to cover most of Nottinghamshire.

It follows a week of erratic weather that has seen record temperatures across the county and thunderstorm warnings that were already in place.

The weather site added: "Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

"Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."
