Weather warning as high winds and hail to hit Edinburgh and Lothians this week

Thought we were done with the winter storms? Think again.

More foul weather is set to batter Edinburgh and the Lothians this week, with a warning in place for high winds on Friday.

It comes after Storm Dennis brought days of miserable rain to Scotland and Storm Ciara caused chaos earlier in February.

The yellow weather warning for wind affects much of East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.

Traffic disruption on the roads is likely and certain routes could be closed to high-sided vehicles on Friday.

The Met Office says: "Strong and gusty west to southwesterly winds are expected across northeast England and parts of southeast Scotland during Friday with gusts of 55-65 mph in places."

Before this, hail showers are forecast to hit Edinburgh on Thursday as the winds start to pick up.

The BBC's weather outlook says: "Friday will be a very windy day with the risk of gales. There will be longer spells of rain for most, which could be heavy and lead to some high rainfall totals.

"On Saturday, much of the country will see blustery showers, some of these wintry with snow on hills.

"Staying windy. Sunday looks like it will remain unsettled, with further spells of heavy rain and hill snow."
