Weather Update: TV weatherman Sean Batty dons his wellies to film sinking car in Lochwinnoch

Telly weatherman Sean Batty has been out and about filming flooding - and  a submerged car - as rain and wind hammered Renfrewshire earlier today.

Paisley man Sean, a former Castlehead High School pupil,  was spotted in Lochwinnoch with his cameraman doing a news piece on a car in the village's Lochlip Road.

The silver family car got into trouble in deep water because of torrential downpours in the early part of the day.

He braved the floods as Renfrewshire was deluged with more than a month’s rain in a single day.

Sean, 37, took to social media to show the soaking folk in Paisley, Linwood, Renfrew, and Lochwinnoch were hit with due to the relentless downpour.

He tweeted video scenes of chaos across the area as rivers burst their banks, roads became impassable and fields flooded over.

He wrote: “The Black Cart Water at Linwood has burst its banks and is flowing across the fields and the Candren Road to Ferguslie, which is now closed.

“So much localised flooding out there just now. Some of the fields between Linwood and @GLA_Airport looking like lochs.”

Paisley’s Fulbar Road was closed off due to severe flooding with police cordoning off the route.

Motorists at Linwood toll were also hit with dangerous driving conditions as flood water swamped their vehicles.

Howwood was also hit with severe flooding due to the heavy rainfall.

The washout weather sparked transport disruption across Renfrewshire and across the west of Scotland with roads closed, bus services cancelled and rail travel affected.
