Weather update: A stranded ambulance, an overflowing river and flooded roads make Renfrewshire a washout

Renfrewshire has been battered by high winds and heavy rains today.

Lochwinnoch Primary has been closed, roads are flooded in Paisley as well as other towns and villages including Kilbarchan and Howwood and rivers have been bursting their banks.

Some families have had to call the emergency services for assistance after suffering severe water damage in their homes.

An ambulance crew was rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in high water near Linwood Toll, and their vehicle has to be physically pushed to safety.

Strong winds and heavy rain are expected to feature throughout today as the treacherous weather continues.

The Met Office has a yellow warning in place for Renfrewshire, meaning "heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and local flooding".

According to the Met Office, you can expect:

  • Spray and flooding on roads, probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services, probably affected with journey times taking longer and
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses.
