Weather maps show how close snow is set to get to Bristol

This weekend is set to see snow across parts of the South West.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow this Saturday (January 30), including Somerset.

However, these warnings have not been extended to cover Bristol - only going as far south as Dursley, Lydney, Fairford and Cirencester in Gloucestershire.

Yet, the forecast shown by weather mapping service WX Charts is contrary to that of the Met Office and does indeed show snow falling in Bristol this weekend.

WX Charts is predicting that snow will fall over the city late on Sunday evening (January 31).

Through a three-hourly mapping display, it shows how this snow coverage could continue into the early hours of Monday (February 1) morning.

The mammoth patch of snow is expected to stretch over the south at the start of next month.

Bristolians could wake up in February to discover the city covered in a fresh of dusting of the white stuff.

Here is a three-hourly rundown of where snow is expected from Sunday night into Monday morning.

Sunday 6pm

The forecast for this weekend first shows snow over Bristol from Sunday evening, when the city is on the edge of a snow patch covering parts of the South West of England and Wales.

This dissipates at 9pm, but reappears later in the evening.

Monday 12am

At midnight at the start of February, Bristol is placed at the heart of the band of snow.

The snow appears to be relatively heavy, with parts of Wales seeing the heaviest of the downpour.

Monday 3am

As the night wears on through the early hours, the band of snow moves further north and shrinks considerably in size.

At the point in the evening, Bristol is on the edge of the snow coverage and will therefore see a lighter downpour from earlier in the night.

Monday 6am

As the dawn approaches, the snowfall will have all but vanished. Bristol is not predicted to see any further snowfall.

The Met Office’s forecast for the South West

This evening and tonight:

Heavy rain will sweep across the region during the evening, clearing into the night. Dry spells overnight, with further outbreaks of rain throughout and winds. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Friday:

Outbreaks of rain and strong winds will affect most areas during the morning. Turning drier in the afternoon with more rain overnight. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Outbreaks of rain on Saturday with possible snow around Gloucestershire. Further rain and strong winds on Sunday, after a frosty start.
