Weather: Level 3 heatwave warning issued for Bristol as 'Saharan blowtorch' hits country

Bristol and the surrounding areas have been issued with a level three heatwave warning by the Met Office, as the "Saharan blowtorch" scorches the country.

The warning is issued in partnership with Public Health England as warm air has slowly spread across parts of Europe during the past week.

Temperatures in Bristol are expected to hit highs of 29°C between today (Friday) and next Tuesday.

There will be highs today of 28°C. But Saturday and Sunday are set to be hotter for the city as temperatures rise to a maximum of 29°C.

Monday and Tuesday will see the heatwave continue as temperatures continue around the 28°C mark.

The next few nights are also expected to be warm with temperatures on average being around 19°C so getting to sleep could be tricky.

The Met Office has additionally put a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in place for Monday and Tuesday as humid conditions are expected.

Today:

A hot and humid day with plenty of sunshine and light winds. A few isolated showers are possible towards the south and east, but these won't last long. Maximum temperature 28°C.

Tonight:

Hazy sunshine during the evening will give way to a dry night with clear spells. Very mild and humid overnight. Minimum temperature 14°C.

Saturday:

Saturday will be another hot and humid day with plenty of sunshine and light winds. Maximum temperature 28°C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

It will stay warm through the rest of the weekend and into next week. Mostly dry with sunny spells, but the chance of thundery showers increasing.
