Weather in Newcastle this weekend if you're watching Carabao Cup final outdoors

Excitement for the big Carabao Cup final is building, with scores of Newcastle United fans gearing up for the historic match against Manchester United.

But what will the weather be like for those who are watching the game outdoors in the North East? If you are staying in the region and plan to soak up the atmosphere here, it is best to wrap up warm on Sunday.

According to weather experts, it will remain cold and cloudy over the weekend, with a chance of light rain. The Met Office predicts that temperatures will hover between 4C and 7C. But it will feel colder, with breezy conditions.

On Saturday, forecasters say there will be light rain changing to cloud by early evening. Temperatures in Newcastle are to reach 6C, with winds of up to 26mph.

On Sunday, it will be overcast changing to light rain by lunchtime. At the time of writing, the forecast was showing some rain in the city at around 2pm, with the showers clearing by 3pm. This means, it should be dry at kick-off time, which is 4.30pm.

Temperatures on Sunday will remain mostly at 6C but will feel colder, with winds of between 14mph and 20mph. Below is the weather forecast for the North East this weekend.

Saturday:

Largely cloudy with scattered showers and limited sunshine, with the showers possibly wintry over high ground. It will feel cold with the breezy conditions, especially along the coast. Maximum temperature 6°C.

Saturday night:

Varying, often large amounts of cloud will persist along with scattered showers, these most likely across eastern areas. Where long cloud breaks occur localised rural frosts may develop. Minimum temperature 0°C.

Sunday:

Generally cloudy with scattered, mostly light, showers. Only limited sunny intervals. Feeling cold, despite slightly lighter winds compared to today. Maximum temperature 8°C.
