Weather in Dublin today: Heavy rain and freezing temperatures predicted for October Bank Holiday weekend

It's noticeably colder this morning and it looks like we're in for a very cold weekend with heavy rain expected later today.

Friday will be dry at first but rain will develop as the morning progresses and will turn heavy at times.

The rain will ease by the evening with a chance of fog developing and top temperatures of 6 to 8C.

The temperature will drop as low as 2C tonight with patches of mist forming.

It won't get much warmer on Saturday with temperatures climbing to just 7 to 9C although it will be quite sunny with moderate west to northwest winds.

And Met Eireann say we can expect some overnight frost on Saturday and Sunday.

The national forecast says temperatures will drop to between -1 and 3C with widespread frost and a risk of a few icy patches.

Sunday will be mostly dry bright and sunny, with just the odd light shower on the north coast.

Top daytime temperatures of 9 to 11C with light to moderate north to northwest breezes.

But it will become cold and frosty overnight, with lows of -2 to plus 2C and some icy patches possible.

Monday will see early frost clearing to give a dry, bright, sunny morning.

There will be further sunshine in the afternoon with some cloudy periods and top temperatures of 9 to 11C.
