Weather in Dublin today: Damp and breezy day with unsettled week ahead as Hurricane Lorenzo set to hit by Thursday

We could be in for a grim week as Hurricane Lorenzo looks set to batter the country later this week.

Lorenzo has grown in strength to a Category 5 storm as it churned across the Atlantic on Saturday night.

Met Eireann say they are closely monitoring the progress of the storm as in moves across the south Atlantic and predict it may hit the country on Thursday and Friday.

The forecaster says: "There is potential for unsettled weather to develop during this period, however, uncertainties in the detail remain due to the track of Lorenzo for this timeframe.

"It is likely to become milder due to the influence of tropical origin air."

Before that, it's looking like a mixed bag for conditions across the capital.

Today will be damp and breezy this morning but the rain will soon clear eastwards and skies will brighten.

Sunny spells will increase this afternoon, with just the odd shower and top temperature of 16 or 17C.

Monday will be rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain forecast for the afternoon and heavier bursts as the evening approaches.

The national forecast for Tuesday predicts it will be damp and cloudy with patchy rain but brighter, clearer and drier weather will gradually extend from the west and northwest during the morning.

Top temperatures of 11 to 15C are expected.

Wednesday is expected to be a dry day countrywide although it will be rather cool, with top temperatures of just 11 to 15C.
