Weather in Dublin today: A calm day in store but a wet and windy week is forecast

Sunday is shaping up to be a bright sunny day but Met Eireann are forecasting a wet and windy start to the week.

Today will see a mix of cloud and sunny spells with temperatures hitting around 18 or 19C by the afternoon.

But as the evening draws in, showery rain will develop which will turn persistent overnight.

Monday morning will be fresh and clear but there will be showers in the afternoon along with fresh and gusty northwest winds.

The forecaster predicts the weather to remain changeable for the rest of the week.

The national forecast reads: "TUESDAY: Rain with strengthening south to southwest winds will move into western and northern areas during Tuesday morning, but much of the rest of the country should stay mostly dry until evening but becoming rather windy.

"Highs of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius. Very wet and windy for a time on Tuesday night, especially in northern counties, but the rain should clear later in the night.

"Very mild with lows of 12 to 14 C., in fresh and gusty southwest winds, which will be strong in northern areas.

"WEDNESDAY: A breezy start on Wednesday with fresh and gusty southwest to west winds. The day will be bright with sunny spells and well scattered light showers.

"Winds easing gradually and afternoon highs of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius. Dry early Wednesday night, but turning wet and windy, from the Atlantic, later.

"THURSDAY: A wet and windy start with strong southerly winds veering northwesterly.

"Some outbreaks of rain, heavy in places, especially over northern counties.

"But the rain should give way to brighter weather with scattered showers for the afternoon and the stiff northwest winds should ease later also.

"Highs of 16 to 20 degrees Celsius, best over south Leinster and east Munster."
