Weather: Heavy showers have last hoorah in Dublin as Met Eireann forecast wonderful weekend change for Ireland

Summer looks like it could be creeping in - but not until next week according to Met Eireann who've warned we've still a few scattered drops to go.

It's been a wet week in Dublin and today will show potential for some brighter spells - but don't take it for granted just yet as experts say there'll be some scattered heavy showers this afternoon.

Met Eireann said: "Today will see sunny spells and scattered showers, the showers heaviest and most frequent this afternoon. Highest temperatures 12 or 13 degrees with light variable winds.

"Tonight will be mainly dry with just a risk of an isolated shower. Lowest temperatures 4 or 5 degrees with light to moderate northerly winds."

The weekend is set for some big improvements with Saturday set to be "mainly" dry while temperatures will tip up a bit to 14 degrees.

"Tomorrow, Saturday, will be a mainly dry day with good sunshine. Highest temperatures will be between 12 and 14 degrees with moderate northerly winds decreasing light later."

As for Sunday and next week, the forecasters have yet to give a prediction for the capitl.

But they have said the whole island will be much improved with some parts set to be as high as 18 degrees.

They said: "Sunday and the early days of next week sees mainly dry and sunny weather developing as high pressure settles over Ireland.

"There'll be high cloud at times making the sun appear hazy.

"Mainly light, occasionally moderate southerly winds will dominate and temperatures will range between 13 or 14 degrees along the east coast and through southern Munster, temperatures elsewhere will reach between 15 and 18 degrees most days, possibly higher in northern Connacht at times.

"Nights will be dry too with temperatures of 7 or 8 degrees generally."
