Bristol Met Office weather forecast: Heatwave to make way for thundery showers

Very hot weather is set to continue into next week but forecasters have also warned to expect thundery showers.

The Met Office said Friday (August 7) was the hottest August day in 17 years as the mercury reached 36.4C in the UK.

Yesterday was another scorcher too and saw hundreds of families descend onto Weston-super-Mare to enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.

The high temperatures will last for several days for the southern and eastern parts of the country, the Met Office has said in-fact.

However, the weather could be a bit more turbulent going forwards.

The forecast for today (Sunday, August 9) reads: "Low cloud clearing to leave sunny spells and becoming hot again in the south.

"The odd shower in central parts, then risk of a thunderstorm in the south later."

The outlook for Monday to Wednesday then reads: "Areas of cloud with heavy, thundery showers mixed with clearer skies and sunny periods.

"Very warm for many parts, hot across much of the south and southeast."

Those of us in Bristol can expect lots of sunny weather today, with highs of 28C expected.
