Weather forecast Dublin: Met Eireann predict heavy rain to come on muggy week in the capital

We had been enjoying a few days of sunshine but it's all changed this morning with Dubliners waking up to rain and grey skies.

And while temperatures are set to hit the 20C mark, there is plenty more rain on the way over the coming days.

Met Eireann say today will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle with the odd bright spell.

Tonight will remain much the same while some mist patches will form in mainly light southwesterly breezes.

Thursday will start off damp and cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle although it will become brighter and drier as the afternoon draws in.

The weekend won't be much better with the forecaster expecting rain to become heavy in places by Friday.

Here's how the weekend national forecast is currently looking:

Friday

A dry bright start on Friday with sunny spells but thickening cloud will bring rain through western counties during the afternoon heavy in places and elsewhere in the evening or early Friday night.

Highs of 18 to 21 C in freshening southerly breezes.

Saturday and Sunday

Changeable over the weekend, there will be showers at times, but some dry bright periods as well with some sunny spells and afternoon temperatures of 17 to 21C on Saturday in moderate westerly winds.

There will be fresher winds on Sunday with highs of 16 to 19C.
