Weather forecast as further thunderstorm warning comes into force for Lanarkshire

Road closures, congested motorways, shuttered businesses and flooded streets – it's been a weekend washout for Glasgow and the west.

And Monday is set to be another wet day, with another thunderstorm warning in place covering east of Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

It comes into force between noon and 9pm tomorrow covering the east of the city, including towns such as Cumbernauld, Coatbridge and Larkhall.

The current yellow alert for Glasgow and much of central Scotland remains until midnight tonight.

The Met Office warn heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption across roads and travel networks in the region.

It comes as the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) put all of mainland Scotland on flood alert, with damage to buildings predicted.

It is anticipated that there will be continued disruption to public transport services tomorrow after three days of torrential downpours, while Scots drivers have been urged to take extra care on the roads.

Monday forecast according to the Met Office

It will be a mostly cloudy start with a few showers, heavier through Lanarkshire, and a 50 per cent chance of thunderstorms developing between 11am and 1pm in Glasgow. Drier, sunnier spells, mostly around the west coast, with some cloud will develop later in the afternoon as the temperature reaches around 19C. It's to be largely dry by midnight with some patchy cloud.

Tuesday

Tuesday is expected to be mostly dry with some bright or sunny spells on Tuesday and early Wednesday.
