Weather forces Scotrail to shut down trains early tonight including Glasgow Queen Street services

Scotrail have announced they will instruct a controlled early shut down of train services this evening in response to wild weather across the country.

Much of Scotland has been inundated with heavy rain, with an amber weather warning in place in the north and east of the country.

As such, the rail operator say a number of services will be reduced from this afternoon, with a controlled shut down of parts of the network to take place from 7pm this evening.

Certain Queen Street upper level services are affected.

Scotrail advise: "With an Amber weather warning from Met Office in place for the east and north of Scotland later today, we’ll reduce the frequency of services running in these areas from late afternoon, with a controlled shut down of the network around 19:00 tonight.

"Our team in Scotland’s Railway Integrated Control room have taken the decision that a 40mph blanket speed restriction will be put imposed across the affected areas from 16:00 this afternoon.
