Weather expert warns of weekend downpours as satellite shows major rain cloud moving in

The forecast for the weekend ahead looks likely to be hampered by torrential rain according to an Irish weather expert.

Satellite charts show a mass amount of rain making its way over Ireland from the west coast on Saturday, with some showers expected to be heavy.

Alan O’Neill from Carlow Weather warned; “Keep an eye on forecasts, it doesn’t look pretty at the moment” for Saturday.

According to Met Eireann’s current predictions, it’ll be a wet and breezy weekend as rain spreads eastwards across the country.

Showers will be heavy at times, “accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds.”

Through the afternoon, the rain is forecast to gradually clear eastwards with sunshine and scattered showers taking its place with winds easing too.

Temperatures will turn milder and will range from 13 to 15 degrees.

Current predictions show Sunday will also bring scattered showers, with some sunshine at times too.

The highest temperatures will range from 11 to 14 degrees in a moderate to fresh south-westerly breeze.

Meanwhile, a good deal of midweek sunshine will be had across areas in the north, west, and midlands on Wednesday before grim weekend conditions arrive.

There will be even more sunny spells expected throughout the day on Thursday for the whole country.

But Friday will then mark the beginning of the unsettled conditions with the first of the showers moving in over the west.
