Weather expert warns of 'early blast of cold' for Ireland as UK braced for possible snow

Ireland could be in for an early cold blast this month, according to one of the country's leading weather experts.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has said that charts are showing some signs of a wintry turn in conditions - but it's too early yet to tell if it will prove correct.

The forecaster tweeted: "An early little short blast of cold possible in about 10 days time."

Over in the UK, forecasters are suggesting a freezing snap could be about to engulf Scotland, England and Wales.

The Met Office is reporting that snow and frost could be just around the corner in some areas later this month.

The entire of Wales is set to see snowfall by 6am on October 24, according to the latest charts of netweather.tv, while the west of Scotland will also see heavy snow.

The mercury is expected to drop to 0C north of the border and some parts of Scotland may see temperatures fall to -1C, Express.co.uk reports.

In England, the mercury will hoover around a chilly 4C with only the north seeing the wintry weather of up to -2C, according to long-range forecasts.

On October 25, parts of Scotland could see the mercury also drop to -2C as many areas of England fall to 1C.
