Weather: Dublin may see 'rumbles' as Met Eireann forecast heavy rain for Ireland

Showers and rumbles of thunder are going to get Dublin today as Met Eireann predict a further downturn in conditions.

Rain began to pelt down on the capital on Thursday following a crispy and dry week - and now it looks like things will get worse before it gets better.

Forecasters say there'll be widespread showers today and that motorists should also watch out for "dazzling" sunshine spells at sunrise and sunset.

Met Eireann said: "There'll be further showers today, becoming widespread through the day and occasionally bringing a rumble of thunder.

"Winds will be light and variable in direction, becoming moderate northerly later.

"Highest temperatures will range between 12 and 14 degrees. There'll be sunny spells with the sun low in the sky causing dazzling at times.

"Temperatures tonight will fall to between 6 and 8 degrees and showers will merge at times to give longer spells of rain. Winds will be light to moderate northwesterly."

Saturday will get some of the sunny spells back, but if you're heading to the seaside make sure you wrap up well as it's going to be cool and windy.

"There'll be further showers tomorrow, Saturday, with sunny spells. Highest temperatures 13 to 15 degrees with light to moderate northwest to northerly winds continuing fresh at the coasts.

There's no Dublin forecast for Sunday or Monday yet - but experts have given a general indication for the island.

They said: "Sunday will be a dry day with sunshine.

"Temperatures during the afternoon will range between 11 and 14 degrees and winds will be mainly moderate northerly.

"It'll turn cold on Sunday night under clear skies with light winds and there'll be misty conditions developing.

"The mist will linger for a time on Monday morning then it will be a mainly dry day with some sunshine breaking through best in the south.

"Temperatures will again range 11 to 13 degrees with light variable winds and it'll turn cold again overnight on Monday night."
