Weather charts show how much snow could fall on Bristol and Somerset - and when

Snow is on its way to Bristol and parts of Somerset, according to weather forecasters.

The Met Office is warning more cold weather is on its way to the area - with snow predicted to hit the region as early as this Friday (January 8).

And forecasting service WXCharts is also predicting snow for the city, and the wider area, on Friday morning and into lunchtime.

WXCharts is saying a weather front coming from the north will bring snow to the area on Friday from 9am.

It will cover the Bristol and Gloucestershire area, as well as northern parts of Somerset and south east Wales.

The forecasting service is predicting snow will continue to hit the area at lunchtime on Friday, but will have stopped by 3pm.

As things stand, WX Charts suggests as much as one centimetre of snow could fall over Bristol and parts of Somerset, while Gloucestershire could see as much as 2cm.

The Met Office is predicting snow will hit Bristol on Friday (January 8), with the forecast saying: "Overcast changing to light snow by late morning."

The forecast is predicting light snow in Bristol at 9am, with maximum temperatures for the day being 3° and the minimum -1°.

The Met Office is also forecasting snow for the North Somerset area at around the same time, with a 50 per cent chance of light snow on Friday morning in Nailsea.

Skies will clear during the evening, before cloud moves slowly in from the east overnight. Largely dry and very cold, with a risk of freezing fog patches and icy conditions. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

Thursday

A foggy and frosty start for many, but most areas becoming sunny in the afternoon. Dry throughout, with light winds and feeling cold. Widespread frost overnight. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday

Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow on Friday. Drier on Saturday, with sunny spells. Staying cold both days, with overnight frosts. Cloudy and milder on Sunday.
