Weapon recovered from the scene of fatal stabbing on O'Connell Street

Gardai have recovered a weapon from the scene of a fatal stabbing in Dublin City Centre according to Morning Ireland.

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It is being reported that eye witnesses saw two men getting into an altercation near the Greshem Hotel on O'Connell Street.

A knife was produced and one of the men was stabbed to death at 1:40am in what was described as a "violent attack" by eye-witnesses.

Gardai are still working to find out the age, nationality and identity of the victim.

A man in his late 20s was arrested shortly after the attack and was taken to Store Street Station.

However, his detention was suspended and he was brought to hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

O'Connell Street is still closed in both directions and is being sealed off as a crime scene.

The scene is being preserved for forensic examination and the whole street has been closed off to the GPO and beyond.
