Livingston have kept hold of ‘the first name on the teamsheet’ after Scott Pittman agreed a two year extension.
That’s according to Head of Football Operations, David Martindale, who says he hopes the local lad will extend his time at the club even beyond his new deal which runs until June 2023.
The former Broxburn Athletic and Bo’ness United midfielder sits second in the club’s all-time appearance list since his arrival in February 2015.
And Martindale says they’ve kept hold of player he describes as an ‘unsung hero.’
He commented: “He’s the first name on the teamsheet every week. He’s the go-to man for all of us.
“Everybody in the changing room would put first in the team too as he’s an unsung hero because he doesn’t do the fancy side of football but everything else he bring to the team is brilliant.
“He does exactly what you ask of him week after week. We would take 11 of him. He’s a fantastic player and puts the team before himself.
“Pitts is hopefully going to be here for his testimonial and it’s rare that happens these days. He’s one of a dying breed.”
The local lad was the subject of interest from Aberdeen two years ago but nothing materialised - and Livingston have been able to reap the rewards.
He added: “There has been interest in him in the past. I spoke to Aberdeen about him and we had a figure in mind that they weren’t prepared to meet.
“But Pitts loves it here and he loves playing for Livingston. He’s a local lad and it’s great for us to have a local boy playing such a pivotal part for the team,
“I’m delighted he’s here. He’s got great work ethic and he puts the team first which I think is invaluable in a modern football player.”
