'We won't be beaten by yobs' -Sunderland's Fausto Coffee shop owner vows to carry on after vandal attack

A Sunderland seafront cafe has spoken out after thugs smashed the windows of their building.

Fausto Coffee in Roker, Sunderland, said they have taken a "huge financial hit" during the Covid-19 pandemic and said that the damage caused to their property hasn't helped their situation.

Both windows at the front of the property on Marine Walk have been smashed with what police believe was caused by two large rocks overnight (June 19).

The cafe said they have been working hard so it's perfect for customers when they return.

In a Facebook post, they said; "We’ve been diligently staying home, trying our very best to do the right thing by everyone, we don’t want to put anyone at risk.

"We’ve given the place some special TLC so that it’s perfect for you all when we return. We have trained our staff in every area of hospitality possible.

"We haven’t lost heart, we’ve gained it- mine and Pete’s entire lives are in here, lock stock but we have taken a huge financial hit and this doesn’t help.

"If anyone saw anything between 8pm- 6am, please get in touch. Police are informed, and we are hoping the nearby CCTV might show something."

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incidents and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 8.20am today (Friday) we received a report of criminal damage at Fausto Coffee, on Marine Walk, Sunderland.

"It was reported that overnight two large rocks had been thrown at the windows of the premises, which had subsequently been damaged.

"An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact us via 101 or by using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 177 190620."
