'We wish we could turn back the clock' - Village butchers to close in new year

The owners of a popular village butchers in Weston-super-Mare have announced they are to shut up shop.

The owners of Worle Village Butchers posted the news on its Facebook page that the shop, which opened in September 2017, is to close in the new year.

In their message the owners thanked their customers for their support over the last two years and paid tribute to the staff.

A spokesman for the butchers said: “We would like to thank and wish a merry Christmas to all our lovely customers for another great year and Christmas, especially the support from our regular customers.

“Unfortunately this was our last one.

“We all worked tirelessly over Christmas doing hundreds of orders, missing our families and children, knowing our jobs were coming to an end.

“We thank you all - and wish we could turn back the clock as the shop is successful and great and it’s upsetting to know, we close through no fault of our own.”

The shop – which is used widely by the Worle community and further afield - will be honouring all its New Year orders.

It is expected the butchers will open under new ownership in 2020.

The spokesman added; “There is in the pipeline, someone to take over in a few weeks, after admin and finances have been sorted in our shop, but our time of ownership has come to an end.”

The news that the butchers is to close under its current ownership has led to huge disappointment in the local community.

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to voice their support for the store.

Customer Julie Mallett posted on the shop’s Facebook page: So sorry to hear this.

“Worle High Street will miss you.

“The service and quality from your shop has been fantastic.”

Lizzy Cambridge added: “So sorry to hear this news. We always had the best service from you guys and the meat was always such brilliant quality.

“Totally gutted for you all.”

Many customers relied on the butchers for their Christmas dinner meats this year.

The shop stocked meat sourced from across the West Country and also offered a delivery service.

Rachel Smith posted: “ I am so sorry to read this.

“We’ve just enjoyed our second year of Christmas Day meat supplied solely by yourselves.

“I hope you can find someone to take on the business as it’s a really valuable asset to Worle.”

Gregor Emslie ppsted: “Absolutely gutted for you.

“I’m in there most weeks and cracking little butchers and really friendly staff.

“Will miss the shop and wish you and staff all the best for the future.”
