'We will do you proud' - Leeds United players pay tribute to iconic Norman Hunter

Leeds United’s current squad has paid tribute to legendary Elland Road defender Norman Hunter after his death on Friday morning.

The 76-year-old died in hospital on April 17 after contracting coronavirus earlier in the month and the football world has shown its love in force.

Taking to Twitter and Instagram, the likes of Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez have all paid their respects to an icon of the club.

Ayling said: “Lucky enough to have met and chatted with him more then a couple of times. Legend of a player and a man.”

First-team coach Carlos Corberan said: “Legends will be always remembered. A big lost (sic) for the Leeds United family.”

Captain Cooper said: “Over 700 games, won everything that there is to win, 20+ caps for his country and involved in a World Cup winning squad!

“But he was a lot more than that. An amazing person with a massive heart. Rest in Peace Norman. We will do you proud.”
