'We were the thickness of a post from going to Wembley' - Bristol City legend Alan Walsh talks to The Subs Bench

The latest edition of Subs Bench has landed on Bank Holiday Monday.

The popular  Made In Bristol show  has arrived on Bristol Live with Richard Latham and Nigel Turner interviewing a host of former Bristol Rovers and Bristol City players from across the generations.

This week we have the second part of an in-depth interview with former Robins winger and forward Alan Walsh.

The fascinating statistics that reveal where Bristol City need to improve to earn promotion

Walsh played some 218 games in the shirt of Bristol City after arriving from Darlington as he talks through some of the key games from his five year spell at the end of the 1980s at Ashton Gate to our weekly Made In Bristol interviewers.

He netted 77 goals between 1984-1989 before moving on to Besiktas, Walsall, Huddersfield Town, Cardiff City, Bath City and other teams.

The former Robins forward even enjoyed time working for the other side in this part of the West Country, with a spell coaching at Bristol Rovers too, following working at Bristol City in a variety of coaching roles.

These days Walsh is also known as being Kelsey Grammar's father-in-law and we hear how a fee was set by tribunal for Walsh to move down to Clevedon and join the Robins in the mid-'80s.

Walsh was known for his thunderbolt shot and this is covered in the interview, as well as playing under former manager Terry Cooper.

You can watch the full interview at the top of the page.
