We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – review

To the outsider, Cadence Sinclair might seem to have it all; the loving family, the money and the friends who care. But anyone who decides to read this novel will find out very differently.

Cadence struggles through the problems any girl her age has to, plus some, letting you connect to her character. Problems at home force Cady to confront the on-going mystery of what happened 2 summers ago and the reason why none of her friends have talked to her since she landed in hospital with no recollection of what had happened.

Now back at the families private island, everything has changed and Cady begins to piece back together the shattered fragments of her memory.

We Were Liars

In my mind when I first received the book I had high expectations since even John Green had reviewed it and E. Lockhart did not disappoint. The relatively short novel might not stand out on your shelf due to its sheer size, but I promise as soon as you pick it up, you’ll be hooked.

The structure of the story and the complexity of all the characters will make you wish you could spend your summer on Beechwood island with them.

Wonderfully written and all-in-all so heart-grabbing, We Were Liars is the perfect mix between romance, daunting secrets and an amazing family summer that you’ll never forget.
