Cadence is the eldest granddaughter of the very wealthy Sinclair family. On the island where Grandad Tippers’s three daughters visit every summer, there are four houses for Grandad Tipper and Grandma Tipper and their three daughters.
The Sinclairs’ lives are filled with tragedies that affect the way they think. As a result, Cadence makes a friendship group called the ‘Liars’, along with Johnny and Mirren, who are related by blood to Cadence, and Gat Patil, the outsider. Gat and Cadence spark up a relationship together in Summer 15 (Cadence numbers the summer Summer 16 when she is age 16 etc). But at the end of summer 15 she has a mysterious accident which everyone one seems to know about but her…
For the rest of the book Cadence searches for sound theories and explanations, finding small clues by eavesdropping on family talks and the lies people tell. It also shows how lonely Cadence feels as she starts trying to be more selfless. Every year Cadence visits the private island, she finds out more and more about her accident, but she also has to go on many various types of drugs which may have some side effects on her mental and physical behaviour.
We We Liars is a psychological thriller that has many twists and turns: it will make people want to reread it to understand the clever plot of this fast paced book. E. Lockhart has set out to put questions in the readers’ minds and to prompt them onto the next page. Since it is a short book I really recommend reading it.
