On-board a Nottingham tram ahead of new mask rules

New measures are to be brought in on public transport and in shops this week as cases of the Omicron Covid were found in the UK, including in Nottingham.

Mandatory mask wearing will once again be enforced from Tuesday, November 30, but while it won't become official until tomorrow, many tram passengers appeared to be adhering to the new guidance already.

Nottinghamshire Live reporter Keimae Blake took a trip from the city centre this morning and from what we saw, many people chose to wear a mask - and whilst of course some people didn't, they still social distanced as best as they could.

With the busiest stops being Old Market Square and The Forest, social distancing can't always be done but some people walked down to less busier areas in the tram which may be impossible to do during rush hour.

With many choosing to stand instead of sit down in empty seats beside people - which was perfectly normal before Covid - some people did take their bags off of seats to offer them to those standing. Some people refused to sit on these occasions, but some accepted.

As a lot of people can't leave the house now without a bottle of sanitiser, which I'm guilty of too, I did spot one person taking precautions and sanitising their hands before and after touching one of the poles on the tram whilst they stood up.
