Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle Manchester United for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to the latest reports from Portugal.
Man United have outlined a move for the 24-year-old this summer but they are yet to make their move and there are several claims in the Portuguese media that Spurs are now in the hunt.
Real Betis' Giovani Lo Celso has been the chief midfield transfer target for Mauricio Pochettino during the current transfer window.
However they have been unable to agree a fee for the Argentina international with Fernandes apparently emerging as an alternative.
Fernandes scored 20 league goals last term with a fee around €70m expected to be needed to land the Portugal international.
While football.london understands he is not a major target for Spurs, Portugal’s public service broadcaster RTP and O Jogo both report that Tottenham have sent representatives to Lisbon as they look to agree a deal.
Spurs fans have been reacting to the latest reports on social media with many thinking it is a strategy to encourage Betis to sell Lo Celso.
