We visited The Neighbourhood to sample their new boozy brunch menu

We headed down to The Neighbourhood restaurant and bar at Bruntsfield to sample their delicious £26 alcoholic brunch.

The Neighbourhood, which opened in November, is ideally situated on the basement level of the Bruntsfield hotel and overlooks the Meadows.

And they offer a brunch deal that runs from 12-4:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays from the eatery on Bruntsfield Place.

Brunch dishes include The Neighbourhood’s Scottish breakfast which comes with all the trimmings including sausages and haggis which have been sourced from John Gilmour’s & Campbells - the local butcher.

There is also the option of smashed avocado with feta and chilli, French toast with mixed berries and maple syrup amongst many other items.

All meals are served with a choice of six proseccos, mimosas or bloody marys - of course there is an option for coffee, tea and non-alcoholic beverages.

You can have a little glance at the menu in the picture below to see what is to your fancy.

For myself, I ordered the full Scottish breakfast with my partner indulging in American style waffles with bacon.

The waffles were delicious (I had to steal some for research purposes of course) - the maple syrup was a beautiful accompaniment and the streaky bacon was in the goldilocks of not too crispy and not too soft, it was just perfect.

Waffles at brunch can be quite controversial with your traditional “I only eat for porridge for my breakfast” brigade but to be honest it is the best decision the Americans have ever made.

And let's be fair, after their recent history of producing the Iraq war, a Donald Trump presidency and a billionaire race to space, it is worth commending them when they do eventually get something right.

Now the Scottish breakfast was amazing and I’m not just saying that. Far too often you go somewhere and there is a measly sausage with a sad looking bit of bacon and a droopy haggis round. But this was different.

I say I stole some of the waffle but in all honesty I only managed a nibble as I was bursting at the seams after the fry up.

Honestly, it was a plate that Hagrid would have struggled to finish and was absolutely perfect for lining the stomach ahead of a big day in the town.

Remember to choose the sourdough bread when asked for your choice of toast - you will not be disappointed.

The service was also fantastic, with mimosas being topped up as soon as they ran dry.

You will also be able to find out about the extensive dinner menu that the Neighbourhood offers along with a collection of cocktails that are made with locally sourced produce.

It is worth noting that breakfast items are available outside of the brunch deal.
