We visited a huge field of sunflowers in Dublin and it was breathtaking

A farmer has planted two acres of sunflowers in his fields in north Dublin to raise money for charity and it looks absolutely breathtaking.

The annual fundraiser allows members of the public to visit the sunflower fields and pick a bunch of their own flowers to take home.

We stopped by to see it for ourselves and were blown away by the sea of yellow as you turn the corner approaching the field and suddenly see hundreds of sunflowers in front of you.

Many painters and artists have also come to the field to sit and paint the stunning scene which is found beside Ballyboughal Airfield, just a 15-minute drive from Dublin Airport.

The seeds were planted in the spring by the Hoey and Bergin families to raise funds for St Francis Hospice in the local area and it opened last month.

The field is open all day long and visitors are invited to come and pick the sunflowers in exchange for a donation.

It has little pathways cut through the sunflowers to allow you to walk between the tall stems and you can bring your own shears to cut the flowers you choose.

There is an honesty box in the field or you can donate online where over €6k in donations has already been raised.

You can easily find the field by searching for ‘Sunflower field in aid of St Francis Hospice’ in Google maps and you can donate here .

The sunflowers will be in bloom until mid-August so if you are looking for an activity to do with the kids in the school holidays, they are sure to love this.
