'We've got this now' - Leeds United fans excited after West Brom drop points vs Birmingham

Leeds United fans couldn’t help but get a little carried away after an almost perfect day for them as the Championship returned to action.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men restart their campaign tomorrow knowing they can open up a three-point gap at the top of the league after nearest challengers West Brom were held to a goalless draw at Birmingham.

The result may have seen Slaven Bilic’s side go top of the table, but there’s no doubt who the happier of the top two were as United were handed a big advantage ahead of their return.

And the result at The Hawthorns capped off what was a brilliant day for Leeds fans, even without the Whites being in action.

Earlier on in the day, Fulham fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford, meaning not only can United open up a gap on West Brom tomorrow, but they can also extend their advantage to 10 points over third and take a huge step towards securing promotion.

And after a day like that, it was understandable to see a few fans getting a bit ahead of themselves.

Still, there were some supporters who didn’t want to tempt fate.

Bielsa takes his side to South Wales for the lunchtime kick-off tomorrow as Leeds resume their promotion push, aiming to end 16 years of waiting.

The Whites have not played for more than three months after the season was suspended amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but have suffered an injury blow on the eve of their return to action.

Pablo Hernandez will be missing for the trip to Cardiff, while Adam Forshaw remains sidelined following his hip surgery earlier this year.

Bielsa has also given an update on January loan signing Jean-Kevin Augustin, who suffered a setback in training last week.

"Augustin is not injured from April, but he is doing individual work," Bielsa said, with the RB Leipzig man expected to miss out this weekend.

Kiko Casilla will also miss out at Cardiff City Stadium as he serves the third of his eight-match suspension.
